Topic: Writing for Broadcast: Using Words, Sounds and Pictures to Craft Compelling Narratives

This lecture will give students an insight into the world of TV news production, explaining from beginning to end the process by which a news or feature story is carefully crafted by the reporter and their team. The creation of a news package involves many contributors and important steps, including discovery, research, planning, logistics, scripting, filming, subbing, editing and publishing. While we will touch on all aspects of this process, we’ll hone in on how the reporter uses images, sounds and voices to craft narratives that condense often complex stories into for-broadcast news items.
